scotland 1883Recently, I’ve met this guy who is from Aberdeen, Scotland and a scotch whisky connoisseur. I took an interest on him because he was wearing this traditional Scottish skirt. We talked a bit about Scotland and India and his experiences here in India. Though I know where Scotland is, but my knowledge about Scotland, its culture and tradition, is limited, mostly based on what I saw on movies and read in books and internet.

Scotland is known for its breathtaking landscapes, castles and fort.  Edinburgh the capital of Scotland is also a land filled with castle and forts which were used by parliament. The Royal mile street is famous for its Cathedral and of course the Castle in which Mary of Scots. The St. Giles Cathedral is Scotland’s principal church, renowned for its ethereal beauty, this cathedral also withstood time and wars. Also acting as a major tourist attraction is the residence of the Royal family of Scotland, the Holyrood house, which also was the house of the last queen of Scotland, Mary of Scots and home to the crown jewel of Scotland.

bd tgrScotland is also the home to the finest liquor, the Scottish whisky or simply the Scotch, one of the finest scotch brand is Black Dog. Scotch, a malt based liquor prepared by naturally allowing the malt to ferment for years in oak barrel with any external hindrance, was first prepared in Scotland around the Viking era. After Vikings spread across Europe, they brought along their finest creation and taught the locals in Scotland to prepare the Scotch. After going through many development, Scotch was finally acknowledge in 15th century by the noblemen of that time who saw the fine taste of this simple yet effective liquor since then there was no turning back.Black Dog Scotch which was introduced 130 years ago is the true symbol of a scotch from Scotland. It has been the favourite luxurious drinks by many from around the world. To truly appreciate the taste one has to visit the early refinery in Scotland which served as factories for producing scotch.

The natural maturation process of scotch usually involves a combination of matured single malt and matured grain whisky. However, recently, Black Dog has created a fine scotch that go through a quite different process called Triple Maturation Process, which produce the Black Dog Triple Gold Reserve. As the name itself suggests, it is the only blended Scotch that is produced involving a triple maturation process. The triple maturation process which involves Grain whiskies and Malt whiskies separately matured in American Bourbon Casks and then blended together and matured again in Oloroso Sherry Butts for an extra longer period of time to give the blend a distinctive flavour and a delicate finish. The colour is enchanting gold, the aroma the lovely balance of matured wood and rich malt, and the taste an elegant wood flavours and caramelized peaches and vanilla.

It is enchanting to see Scots still proudly bears their traditions, and not only that, they too nurture them by enriching them and making the world fall in love with them.
